French companies will be required to hold an <strong>EORI number linked to their SIREN<\/strong>. Without it, customs clearance will no longer be possible.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">What is changing with the new EORI rule in France?<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Until now, it was common practice to register an EORI number based on a SIRET (local establishment ID). But in line with EU harmonisation, EORI registration in France will now be tied to the <strong>company\u2019s headquarters, via the SIREN number<\/strong>, rather than to a local branch (SIRET).<\/p>\n<p>As of January 2026, customs authorities will only accept EORI numbers associated with the SIREN number, the official identifier for companies in France.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>EORI update required for active businesses:<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Updating an EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification number) in France is done mainly through the SOPRANO portal on the <strong><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><a style=\"color: #33cccc;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.douane.gouv.fr\/service-en-ligne\/demande-dautorisation-douaniere-et-fiscale-soprano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">French Customs website<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>For companies without a SIREN-based EORI<\/strong>: You are advised to apply for one now.<\/li>\n<li><strong>For companies with both SIRET and SIREN EORI<\/strong>: The SIRET-based EORI will no longer be used.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How to update your EORI:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Visit the <strong><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><a style=\"color: #33cccc;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.douane.gouv.fr\/service-en-ligne\/demande-dautorisation-douaniere-et-fiscale-soprano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">French Customs website<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Create an account if needed<\/li>\n<li>Complete the EORI SIREN application form<\/li>\n<li>Follow the instructions to submit and update your details<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Transition period:<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A transition phase is in place until the end of 2025, during which SIRET EORI numbers may still be used.<\/li>\n<li>From 2026 onwards, only SIREN-based EORI numbers will remain valid.
